Founder
Susana was raised in Monrovia, California, as an Emerging Bilingual, Chicana, female, and first generation college student. She has firsthand experience of both the possibilities and flaws of our public K-12 education system.
Upon earning a H.S. diploma, she embarked on a nontraditional path toward earning her B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies in Public Policy at Michigan State University. She graduated in 2002, a proud single mother and first generation college graduate. In 2006, she remarried and relocated to Northglenn, a small city in the north Denver metro area, and started raising her family. While she set her eyes on a career in law, life had a different plan. She discovered a passion for teaching and learning as a history teacher at a public charter school in Southwest Denver.
Seventeen years of public service in the classroom has brought her great joy, personal satisfaction, and fulfillment. It also has set a new purpose: equity in the classroom for Emerging Bilinguals impacted by trauma and poverty. Thus a new dream was born, Mi Vida Academy. Mi Vida Academy will be a public ECE-8th grade dual-language school that centers co-creation, discovery, dialogue, and analysis in the learning environment leading to deep understanding. Mi Vida Academy will be a place where students thrive within a community of multilingual critical thinkers and develop a deep appreciation of self.

Susana L Cabrera is currently completing a two year School Leader Residency with a public K-8 dual language immersion charter school, Global Village Academy - North.
